I would like to try to work with my students on creating a web page on Weebly to showcase their work, allowing me to look back at their work over the course of the year. I currently have a Speech Notebook for each student that has practice work pages, brainstorming and project pages and things that they share in it. It would be great to have a place that can have these things as well as audio and video recordings of their speaking at different times of the year. I would like to share it with families and teachers and have students share with their classmates what they are working on.
Right now I have recordings on different computers and Ipads. It would be great to have work all in one place. I am just hoping it is as easy to use as the preview Sarah shared says it is. Has anyone else used Weebly to have students make web pages?
I would also like to try Scrible with a couple of older students who are working on listening to information in text and summarizing it into just a few key words. I think they will like using this to find key information in text and to summarize.
I have used Weebly for the Instructional Technology Website and it is very easy to add video that is saved on your computer. There is a Weebly app as well. I haven't used it much, but I'm guessing it would be just as easy to add video from the iPad. I have also used Google Sites to help build student portfolio pages. It is very easy to add video to the Google Sites as well. The trick is just having the video saved to Google Drive first. I'd be happy to help with either of these if you would like.
ReplyDeleteI did just check one thing on Weebly, the video component is not available on the free version of Weebly. It is only included on the Pro version, which the students would not have. Google Sites might be a better fit if you are going to have the students creating their own pages.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will look at that. I also was reading about edublogs and it says that teachers can have oversight of the pages and that they can be private and shared as appropriate. Have you had experience with that?
ReplyDeleteWeebly is very easy to use, but like Megan mentioned the video option is not available on the free version. GoogleSites is a great alternative like Megan mentioned, and that might be a better option too because I believe you have a privacy setting on that one that will restrict who can view it. If you need help with either one, let me know. I would be happy to help!
